Ingredients
- 450 g extra-lean ground beef (95% lean)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 pita breads
- 150 g tzatziki
- 100 g iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 120 g tomato, sliced
- 50 g red onion, thinly sliced
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, coriander, smoked paprika, oregano, salt and pepper. Mix and knead with your hands until the meat becomes a smooth, tacky paste.
- Press the seasoned meat firmly into a flat, compact rectangular loaf about ½ inch thick.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully place the loaf in the pan.
- Cook for 5 to 6 minutes per side, pressing down occasionally with a spatula, until well browned and cooked through.
- Move the loaf to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Using a sharp knife, shave the loaf into very thin, rotisserie-style strips.
- Warm the pitas in a dry skillet or toaster.
- Spread tzatziki over each pita, then top with the shaved beef, lettuce, tomato and red onion.
